CLASE INFANTIL FUNDAMENTAL

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

This is our fundamentals children’s class, focusing on 1) coordination, 2) movement, and 3) beginning steps. The focus is to obtain the skills needed to move into the Infantil Performing class. Dancers are evaluated once or twice a year, upon the space availability in Infantil Performance. This is not a performing class; however, we may have a recital (time permitting) with them.

Essentials for this class:

Attention span/Maturity/Focus. Although we include children from the age of 5, it is important to note that the attention span and focus needed may not be present at age 5 for some. If one child loses focus, it is not unusual to see a ripple effect among all, and I will do my best to refocus them!

Attendance and Punctuality. Consistency and promptness is helpful to retain what they are learning, especially since we only meet once a week for 45 minutes. If a dancer consistently misses classes and sees others progressing, it may affect their self-confidence—I do not want to see this.

In brief, if you are unable to make it consistently to practices, or your child is not ready to focus during a 45-minute class, it may be in your child’s best interest to wait until they are able to attend consistently and able to focus. Keeping in mind that each child is different—and you know your child best—go with what you feel is best!

Class time/Arrival/Attendance:

  1. Class time: 6:15 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Please aim to arrive by 6:05 p.m. to park and enter. Arriving early rather than on time allows your dancer to walk in relaxed and feel ready, as we will begin at 6:15 p.m.

  2. Bathroom use: Please have your dancer use the restroom prior to the start of class. Our class is only 45 minutes. If one dancer (at this age) says he/she needs to use the bathroom, they ALL need to use the bathroom, which essentially is a 10-15 minute break in our session.

  3. Mask use: Currently we are using masks. Please help us keep our group safe; wear your masks in the studio. As the rates of flues/colds and Covid go down, we will modify this.

  4. Attendance: I take attendance at each practice. If your dancer will not attend class, please text me ahead of time. Dancers are marked “Excused” when I am notified and marked with an “O” when absent without a message. My number is (916) 879-3950.

Practice gear:

Dancers should use, in the meantime, tennis shoes or a pair of hard-soled shoes that do not interfere with pointing and flexing their foot. Even though your students are in the fundamentals class and will not be performing, it is best for them to have the proper shoe so that they can feel the steps and hear their sounds. Maestra Briana, Infantil Performing class, recommends purchasing black folklorico shoes/boots.

  1. We have some folklorico shoes and boots at the studio, which can be purchased for a donation. These are shoes that a) dancers outgrew, or 2) we received via an old grant (what’s left).

  2. Join our Facebook Nube de Oro - Communication page and Mercadito Nube to see posts from Nube members regarding shoes and accessories.

  3. Vanesa’s Artesanias, on Franklin Blvd. has folklorico shoes and boots at a good price.

Method of communication:

I communicate via text messages. If this method does not work for you, please let me know! If I send messages requiring responses, I ask that you try not to “reply all” the text so everyone does not receive responses from 20+ parents. My number is (916) 879-3950.

Questions/Concerns:

I like to know how you and your dancers feel. If there are questions or concerns, please feel free to talk with me. If you don’t communicate your dancers’ needs or concerns, I will not know :( Don’t ever feel like you cannot talk to me or that I may have my toes stepped on, I won’t! Do share with me!

Dues:

You can Venmo your dues to our Treasurer, Adelita Flores, @Adelita-Flores81. Her cell number is 916-214-6366.

Dues are $40 (1-2 dancers) and $45 (3+ dancers), and due at the beginning of each month.

Remember that dues are not payment for dancer instruction, rather they allow for membership to Nube de Oro. So whether you miss classes or not, dues are due every month, unless you remove yourself from our Nube de Oro membership!

Gracias! and Welcome to Nube de Oro!
